A first look at a sky-high event space
When Rhubarb hosted an event for us and other industry professionals to experience their Sky Garden venue and its offerings, the first question that sprang to mind was “how high up is it?” 155 metres to be exact. The venue itself is a selling point – Sky Garden is one of London’s tallest skyscrapers, with 360-degree panoramic views across the city.
This event space is like no other – it’s exceptional. Sky Garden lifts you up and away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and elegantly places you in a tranquil space, surrounded by lush gardens, bars and restaurants. It’s a flexible event space too, with a capacity of up to 475.
Upon arrival at the expansive Sky Pod, we approached a beautifully presented cocktail stand, where our drinks were prepared in front of us, ready for us to personalise with fruit and coloured petals. Feeling relaxed and enjoying the welcoming atmosphere, we could take in the exquisite interior and exterior views, including The Shard, St Paul’s and Canary Wharf.
A deliciously different venue
Putting the beautiful views and refreshments aside, we wanted to explore the venue and give our taste buds a different kind of treat. It didn’t take us long to find a superb sushi table, where guests could watch a talented chef cook up an awe-inspiring display of sushi delicacies. The catering is hosted by Rhubarb (Heston Blumenthal is on the board of directors) and it’s clear they take a great deal of pride in their presentation. Throughout the event, we were served delicious canapés and bowl food by friendly staff who presented the food on the most interesting pieces of serving equipment we’ve seen.
Another memorable aspect of our night was a tasty refreshment called POPS – also known as premium ice popsicles. This is an ever-growing business, enjoyed by countless celebrities, and now we know why. We tried the Bellini flavour, which is a refreshing mix of Prosecco and peach. Unsurprisingly, we’re keen to try more. To top it off, there were two great bands providing live entertainment – they even got people dancing, and the place felt like a garden party in the sky!
What’s our verdict?
‘Awesome’ is one of those overused words, which should be reserved for experiences like this. The breathtaking views are only the beginning of this venue’s selling points. Its spacious surroundings and stunning architecture, coupled with a delightful dining experience, enables it to be one of the most unique venues we’ve come across. Everyone at Avenue Events was impressed, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see this venue appear in one of our event proposals in the future.
